What Religion Are You?

That question doesn't come up too often, but when it does, I don't know what to say. I usually say "Celestian." I am very much against modern organized religion. That's not to say that I don't share beliefs with those religions, because I do. The whole idea of religion is to have a set of beliefs that you can look at as a source of morals and guidance. Somehow, sitting in a huge building with 150 other tired people listening to some guy in a robe telling me what to believe while money baskets are being passed around doesn't seem like religion to me.

What does? Well, I consider myself to be about 85% Christian. "But Celeste, you just said you don't believe in organized religion," you're thinking. Wrong. I said I don't believe in modern organized religion. The difference is that religion today has become so commercialized and money-based there's not much point in bothering anymore. However, the beliefs that that religion is based upon can very well coincide with my own.

As I was saying, I'm about 85% Christian. I believe in God and Jesus and all that, but I do not see the Bible as a record. I don't agree with everything in the Bible, and neither does the Bible (more on that later). I see the Bible as a guide to better living through stories. Obviously everything in the Bible isn't true, such as Adam and Eve. Scientists have proven that we have evolved from one-celled organisms. But where did that first organism come from? That's where religion fits in.

Speaking of Adam and Eve, that's what I meant before about the Bible not agreeing with the Bible. There are numerous contradictions in it. One example is the Adam & Eve/Cain & Abel story. OK, Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's only sons, right? So there were four people total on Earth at that time. Why, then, did God place a mark on Cain's forehead to let all the other people on Earth know of his crime? Hold the phone, WHAT other people? Abel was dead, leaving two other people on Earth, and I'm pretty sure Adam and Eve were aware of the fact that their son killed his brother.

That's just an example. Back to the main topic, if I'm 85% Christian, then what makes up the other 15%? Actually, I'm not sure, but I'm very, very interested in learning more about the Wiccan religion. In fact, I've been reading numerous books on the subject.

So, what do you think? Are you a member of some nifty religion? Do you have some cool resources or info for me? Do you agree or disagree with me? E-mail me, dang it! No one ever e-mails me! GRRRR!!! OK, I'm all right. Ciao!
